Rotherham hotel rioter Peter Lynch, 61, dies in prison

Peter Lynch admitted to a charge of engaging in violent behavior.

A grandfather who was found guilty of violent behavior following a riot outside a hotel that accommodated asylum seekers has passed away while incarcerated.

Peter Lynch, 61, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after admitting his role in the disturbances at the Holiday Inn Express in Rotherham on August 4th.

During his sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court, it was reported that he yelled "racist and inflammatory comments" at the officers and referred to the asylum seekers staying in the hotel as "child murderers."

A representative from the Prison Service announced that Lynch, who was incarcerated at HMP Moorland in Doncaster, passed away on Saturday.

"The spokesperson stated that, like in all cases of deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation."

Lynch, a devoted family man, had experienced a heart attack earlier this year and had recently been diagnosed with diabetes. According to his defense attorney, he went to the hotel to demonstrate against immigration policies.

He believed in a broad conspiracy theory that targeted all authorities and institutions, and he was holding a sign that mentioned the "deep state" and NASA.

The judge stated that footage presented in court depicted Lynch escalating the situation right before it became violent and referring to the police as "scum."

Lynch was seen holding a sign that labeled certain groups as corrupt.
