Jane's Addiction has expressed regret after deciding to cancel an upcoming performance due to a fight that broke out on stage in Boston.

On Friday night, the American band abruptly ended their performance when lead singer Perry Farrell hit guitarist David Navarro.

They were scheduled to perform in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Sunday as part of their reunion tour, but that event has now been canceled.

"We sincerely apologize to our fans for what happened last night," the band posted on Instagram on Saturday.

Therefore, we have decided to cancel the performance scheduled for tomorrow night in Bridgeport.

The group made it clear that attendees would receive a refund.

Videos circulating on social media depicted Farrell yelling at Navarro, 57, and striking him.

The 65-year-old musician was subsequently held back by the staff and escorted off the stage at Boston's Leader Bank Pavilion.

Jane's Addiction was established in Los Angeles in 1985. The group is made up of lead singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins, and bassist Eric Avery.

After being apart for over ten years, they have come back together and are set to perform multiple shows across the US and Canada in the upcoming months.

It hasn't been confirmed yet whether those shows will still take place.

The group put out a total of four albums: Nothing's Shocking in 1988, Ritual De Lo Habitual in 1990, Strays in 2003, and The Great Escape Artist in 2011.

Some of their popular songs are "Been Caught Stealing," "Strays," and "The Great Escape Artist."

The band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, celebrating their contributions to music.

BBC News has reached out to Jane's Addiction to get their response.
