According to The Athletic, an announcement is likely to be made in the next few days.

The 53-year-old's contract with Manchester City is set to end at the conclusion of this season.

The new agreement would mean that the Spaniard will have managed the club for more than ten years, as he started with City in the summer of 2016.

Guardiola has secured a total of 18 trophies during his time at City, which includes six Premier League championships and a Champions League title.

There has been a lot of talk about Guardiola's future in recent months, especially since the club announced that director of football Txiki Begiristain will be departing at the end of the season. Begiristain, who has worked closely with Guardiola for many years, will be succeeded by Hugo Viana from Sporting Lisbon, who is also a former Newcastle player.

Clarifying Guardiola's situation would help avoid any more upheaval next summer, especially as the club prepares to participate in the Club World Cup.

The announcement, which is expected to be verified later this week, arrives during a crucial time in City's season. Plagued by injuries, the champions have been struggling with their performance lately, suffering losses in their last four games across all competitions—marking the lowest point in Guardiola's coaching career.

The club has had a challenging time beyond the pitch as well, dealing with 115 allegations of violating Premier League regulations stemming from an inquiry into their financial dealings.

Eight years ago, Guardiola took over from Manuel Pellegrini at City after enjoying successful tenures with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

"Pep Decides It’s Not Time To Leave Man City"

Sky Sports News journalist Ben Ransom:

I believe the timing of the announcement caught everyone off guard. Throughout this season, it seemed like Pep was leaning more toward staying.

"One more year, perhaps. During the summer, it was hard to tell if that was the situation. It seems like he put a lot of thought into this choice, doesn’t it? Remember the quote he made after winning that fourth straight Premier League title? He mentioned that he was more inclined to leave than to remain."

"This is his ninth season, so it’s clear he won’t play for another nine years. However, for him to express that sentiment and be in a contemplative state suggests that he’s considering how this team has changed and developed, as well as their current position. There's a lot on his mind."

His family remains in Catalonia and Barcelona, which certainly would have been a significant attraction for him to return to Spain. However, he also has his job and the club he deeply cherishes to consider.

"Pep has a strong commitment to Manchester City, and that has been evident. He genuinely enjoys his role and embraces the challenge of competing for the Premier League title."

"I believe that’s what has pushed him to decide to stay. His close friendship with Txiki Begiristain plays a big role in this. It’s already known that Txiki will be leaving at the end of the season."

We understand that Hugo Viana is stepping into a position similar to that of a sporting director or director of football. This marks the beginning of a new partnership, a fresh chapter, and a different set of challenges. I believe Pep realized that by leaving at this time, he wouldn't be acting in the club's best interest. They rely on him.

"They require a person they can trust. And when you examine his track record, it’s clear that Pep is someone they can count on."
