Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola has revealed the effective solution that helped his team deal with injuries this season.
On Saturday afternoon, the Citizens' final match of the 2023-24 season will be the FA Cup final, where they will face their crosstown rivals Manchester United at Wembley.
A study found that Man City was the second fittest team in the Premier League this season. Their injuries only cost them 672 days, which was nearly 1,000 days less than their rivals' injuries experienced under Erik ten Hag, resulting in a total of 1,620 days.
The Citizen's team had the least amount of players hurt throughout the year, even though a few of their key players like Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, and Erling Haaland were out for a long duration.
According to Guardiola, serving "hot soup" is a key component of Man City's strategy to keep their players healthy, as the team competes on multiple fronts. They are aiming for a league and cup double to replicate their success from last season, where they won three trophies.
Pep Guardiola gave an explanation about how the players from Manchester City have mainly avoided getting injured.
During this season, Man City experienced almost 1,000 less days of injury compared to their neighboring team, Man United.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the manager of Man City expressed satisfaction with how they handled injuries and praised the personnel who took care of the players' wellbeing.
He said: 'We've got Lorenzo Buenaventura [the club's fitness coach] who's a real expert at telling me whether it's time for a harder training session or a lighter one, or if it's time to take a break altogether. He's like a soup chef who knows exactly what ingredients to add to make it just right.'
As professional players, we are accustomed to participating in numerous games, sometimes even every three days, which amounts to 60 matches per season. We have come to realize that at times there might be minimal training involved, with the emphasis being on conserving energy for the upcoming game. This approach remains crucial for our overall performance.
Next, we are fortunate to have an amazing group of medical professionals and physical therapists - it's truly astounding. They dedicate a significant amount of time, often working for 60 to 70 hours.
Guardiola also acknowledged the commendable conduct of his team members, followed by stating: 'Even if you possess ample strategies, you're rendered helpless in the absence of proficient players. I'm vulnerable at this point. This statement truly depicts the reality.'
In regards to the group and organization, each department motivates one another to improve. The success of sizable teams relies on the club as a whole, rather than just myself.
Guardiola praised everyone in the team, including the fitness coach, Lorenzo Buenaventura.
Ederson, unfortunately, won't be playing in the upcoming FA Cup final as he's the only Man City team member who's unable to participate due to his fractured eye socket.
Manchester City will be missing the services of their goalkeeper, Ederson, during the highly anticipated Wembley event. Ederson sustained an injury to his eye socket in a previous match against Tottenham, rendering him unfit for the upcoming event.
Man United got some good news before the FA Cup final this week. Three of their players, Mason Mount, Anthony Martial, and Victor Lindelof were able to participate in Wednesday's training session after recovering from their injuries.
