Pedro Pascal As The MCU’s Reed Richards Feels Like The Wrong Pick
The final installment of The Last of Us franchise has arrived with a bang. This latest game is the epitome of post-apocalyptic gaming, as the story follows the battle for survival in a world overrun by deadly fungal infections. Players are put in the shoes of Ellie, a hardened survivor who must navigate a hostile landscape filled with infected and human enemies alike. The Last of Us Part II takes the original game's intense storyline and ramps it up to eleven. The gameplay is more fluid, with improved graphics and stunning visuals that make the game feel like a movie. As Ellie, you will face difficult decisions that will have a profound impact on the story and game world. If you're a fan of survival horror or story-driven games, The Last of Us Part II is a must-have. Its emotional storytelling, paired with its intense and realistic gameplay, will leave you breathless and wanting more. This is truly a masterpiece in gaming and a fitting end to an incredible franchise.
Yesterday, news circulated on various entertainment websites that Pedro Pascal was supposedly on the verge of signing on to portray Reed Richards in Marvel's upcoming Fantastic Four movie.
We haven't heard the name Pascal mentioned in any rumors for about a year. Initially there were speculations about John Krasinski, Penn Badgely, Adam Driver, and more recently, Jake Gyllenhaal. However, it was reported that Gyllenhaal's price was too high. Therefore, Pedro Pascal might be the ultimate choice.
To be honest, I'm not too keen on it. Although I admire Pedro Pascal, it seems like he's being overly touted lately and is perhaps being chosen based on his considerable presence in high-profile projects. He's currently leading the pack in Disney Plus' highest-rated show, The Mandalorian, and also the leading man in HBO's most-watched series, The Last of Us. And now, there's a possibility that he'll be starring in the most eagerly-anticipated impending movie under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner.
I have a strange feeling about this. Pascal is fantastic, and he seems like a great person in addition to being a great actor. However, there's something that doesn't sit well with me about his casting, especially considering how often we've seen him before. Frankly, I don't think he's the best fit for the role. People are saying that this Fantastic Four movie might take place in a world where Reed and Sue already have children. There are even some jokes going around that Pascal's character might have to take care of a very special child during the movie, similar to what he did in The Last of Us and The Mandalorian.
I've heard some more plausible rumors about who might be joining the team. I really think Vanessa Kirby would be the ideal choice to play Sue Storm. She looks the part and has great acting skills. The other rumors going around are that Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things might play Johnny Storm and Ebon-Moss Bacharach from The Bear might play Ben Grimm. I don't have any objections to either of those choices, but I did read a tweet that made me chuckle about Quinn's "too British" face.
Vanessa Kirby attended the AFI Fest screening of "The Son" which took place at TCL Chinese Theatre on November 5, 2022 in Los Angeles, California. A photo of her at the event was captured by Gilbert Flores for Variety.
People have been reminiscing about how great Ioan Gruffudd was as Reed Richards in the old Fantastic Four movies whilst talking about the recent discussion around Pedro Pascal. However, Gruffudd may not have the level of fame that Marvel is looking for in the role. Although it wasn't possible, Penn Badgley from the show "You" would have been my top pick. Personally, I don't think John Krasinski, Ryan Gosling or Jake Gyllenhaal would have been suitable either. Maybe Adam Driver would have been a good fit, but I wouldn't blame him if he didn't want to work with Disney again after his experience with Star Wars.
It's not officially confirmed yet, but it could be soon. Since playing Mando only requires voice acting and Pascal's role in The Last of Us is quite limited in the future, he should have enough time to take on another project (he's also going to star in Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2!). However, I'm not entirely sold on the idea - even though I have a lot of admiration for Pascal.
