A key actor from Crocodile Dundee, who starred with Paul Hogan in the hit film from 1986, has passed away at approximately 90 years old, as confirmed by the caretakers of the reptile.

Burt, a saltwater crocodile measuring five meters and weighing 700 kilograms, passed away while in captivity at Crocosaurus Cove, a crocodile sanctuary and aquarium located in Darwin, Australia, where he had resided since 2008.

The zoo shared a message on Facebook expressing their sorrow over the loss of Burt, the legendary Saltwater crocodile who was a beloved figure in the Australian film Crocodile Dundee.

"Burt peacefully passed away over the weekend at the impressive age of over 90, bringing an extraordinary chapter to a close."

Most saltwater crocodiles generally have a lifespan of around 70 years, although some can reach up to 100 years. This species holds the title of the largest reptile in the world and can consume any creature that gets too near.

Burt became one of the most recognizable reptiles in the world due to the global popularity of the film Crocodile Dundee, directed by Peter Faiman. This movie continues to hold the record as the highest-grossing Australian film ever made.

In the movie, American journalist Sue Charlton (played by Linda Kozlowski) journeys into the Australian wilderness to find the infamous and quirky poacher Mick “Crocodile” Dundee (played by Paul Hogan). After he rescues her from an attack by a crocodile, she invites him to New York City, where he experiences the challenges of city living for the very first time.

In honor of the famous crocodile, the zoo took a moment to remember Burt’s remarkable journey and rise to stardom, which began when he was captured in the early 1980s ahead of his appearance in films.

“They described Burt’s life as a tale filled with determination and perseverance, showcasing a character that matches the vibrant spirit of the Top End.”

Caught in the Reynolds River during the 1980s, Burt emerged as one of the most famous crocodiles globally. His appearance in "Crocodile Dundee" contributed significantly to Australia's reputation as a country known for its stunning landscapes and remarkable wildlife.

The zoo noted that Burt was a “true bachelor” and showed strong independence, as he didn't seem interested in finding a partner at the crocodile farm.

The statement went on: “In 2008, Burt arrived at Crocosaurus Cove, where he became a passionate and captivating representative for teaching people about crocodiles.”

Burt was well-known for his self-reliant personality and had no plans of getting married—something he demonstrated during his younger days working at a crocodile farm.

His intense personality garnered admiration from both his caretakers and visitors, as he represented the wild and fierce essence of a saltwater crocodile.
