Osimhen in limbo after Chelsea fail to agree deal

Is Arsenal's signing of Sterling a necessary addition to their squad or a sign of desperation? (2:01)

Craig Burley and Shaka Hislop have different opinions about Arsenal's decision to sign Chelsea's attacker, Raheem Sterling.

James Olley, a senior journalist from ESPN FC, posted an article on August 30, 2024 at 11:41 PM.

Victor Osimhen's next steps are uncertain after Chelsea was unable to come to an agreement to acquire the Napoli forward before the transfer deadline in England.

Insiders at ESPN report that Osimhen, a player in the Serie A, was offered €80 million by Al Ahli from the Saudi Pro League. However, the Nigeria national player seemed unsure about leaving the European football scene.

This situation put Chelsea in a good position to take action, as they showed increased interest in the 25-year-old player when discussions ramped up on Thursday and Friday.

Nevertheless, informants have told ESPN that an agreement could not be finalized before the deadline.

Al Ahli was also considering signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney. Since the Saudi club can't register both forwards, Osimhen may need to wait for another Middle East team to show interest before the Saudi Pro League window closes on September 2. Otherwise, he might have to work on repairing his connections at Napoli.

Osimhen will face a tough challenge at Napoli as new head coach Antonio Conte has managed to convince the club to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in a £30 million ($39.4 million) agreement.
