A fan running onto the field during the Argentina vs Morocco game at the beginning of the Olympics football competition was an unfortunate way to start the event.

The Paris Olympics committee is investigating the cause of a disturbance that occurred during the first game of the Olympic soccer competition between Argentina and Morocco.

Argentina was defeated 2-1 after a VAR review determined the final score. The game had been halted with the scores tied at 2-2, but the outcome wasn't officially confirmed until two hours later when the match resumed.

Organisers of the game between Argentina and Morocco at the Saint-Etienne Stadium announced that the match had to be stopped because a few fans ran onto the field.

After the game resumed and finished without any issues, Paris 2024 is collaborating with the necessary parties to figure out what caused the problem and determine the right steps to take.

Argentinian player Cristian Medina scored a late goal to potentially earn a 2-2 draw, but the goal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review that took place two hours after the game was stopped.

After things calmed down and the teams exited the field following the incident where security personnel had to chase a few fans around the grounds, it was evident that the match had not finished but was put on hold.

The teams came back out onto the field to complete the game in a deserted stadium, playing for 3 minutes and 15 seconds after VAR finished its review and ruled out the goal, marking a chaotic beginning to the tournament.

"We had a small incident that shouldn't have occurred, but it was not malicious. The organizing committee and FIFA have discussed the issue and everything will return to normal," stated French Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera.

"Next week, there is a game in Saint Etienne and I assure you that everything will go smoothly."
