Olly Murs has experienced a busy 2024, welcoming his first child, and now he's set to feature on the show Who Do You Think You Are?.

The well-known BBC program is sure to evoke strong feelings in the audience as the former X Factor contestant explores his family heritage, delving into the intriguing mystery surrounding his great-grandmother's past, who came from Latvia.

The singer discussed the conflict in a 2015 interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, sharing that their argument had also led to Ben becoming distant from their parents.

In 2009, Ben expressed his feelings of disappointment to the Sunday People, stating, "Our family fell apart due to X Factor. It seemed like people such as Simon Cowell mattered more to him than I did."

Olly has partially disputed Ben's assertions, sharing with the Sunday Times: "I don’t communicate with my twin brother, and that has been very tough. There were issues between Ben and his girlfriend, and our family, well before X Factor came along. His wedding became the reason for his decision to cut me out of his life... I get the sense he never really appreciated us as a family."

The troubled relationship between the two has taken a toll on Olly, and during his time as a judge on The Voice UK, he got teary-eyed talking about their conflict. "We had a major fight," he shared on the program.

I have a strong sense that the next time I’ll meet him will be during a really difficult moment—likely at a family member’s funeral. I truly hope it doesn’t turn out that way. I really miss having my twin by my side. Our twin connection has always been something I cherished, and I still hold that pride today.

He confessed to his fellow judges that he had no idea where his brother was living at that moment.

In a 2024 interview with The Times, the artist behind the hit song "Troublemaker" opened up about feeling "lonely" after their split. He expressed, "It's tough to feel lonely when you've been so close to someone, almost like being in the womb together. I had to confront that loneliness when my twin and I chose different paths in life."

The two are still not on speaking terms, and Ben has stated that any chance of getting back together is completely closed. In 2017, he told the Sunday People that he tried to reconnect with his brother in 2013 after Ben and his wife had their first baby.

Ben shared with the publication: "I've moved on with my life. I truly wish him the best. We both have our own paths now. The last time I reached out, I was met with a cold response."

Nevertheless, Ben seemed willing to consider the possibility of mending their relationship, telling the Sunday People: "I’m not concerned about the famous Olly Murs or his wealth; I just want to reconnect with my brother."

The next year, Olly shared with Lorraine Kelly that he was hopeful for a reconciliation between them. He expressed, "I really hope so. It’s crazy because every year I find myself pondering it, whether it’ll end up being nine years, ten years."
