Sex Pistols' bassist slams Oasis as "boring": "To hear one song once is enough"
Glen Matlock, the bassist for the Sex Pistols, revealed that he turned down an offer to join Oasis, describing the group as "uninspired" and "monotonous."
Oasis fans went wild when Noel and Liam Gallagher revealed a long-anticipated reunion tour for the band this past August.
When asked about the buzz surrounding the 2025 performances, Matlock shared his thoughts with NME in a recent interview: "If you’re a supporter, it makes sense. They have a huge fanbase."
I've always thought of Oasis as somewhat similar to Status Quo. With Status Quo, listening to one song is usually sufficient. I feel the same way about Oasis; just hearing one of their songs is often enough for me. They strike me as a bit too repetitive.
He added, "I’m familiar with those guys. They're really good people. I have to watch what I say since I run into Noel [Gallagher] pretty often. He lives nearby."
I believe Liam is amazing. His singing is impressive – he has a similar vibe to Johnny Rotten, but he can actually hold a melody. He possesses a captivating presence on stage; even when he’s just standing still, he commands attention.
"The others? Not at all. I find them dull in concert. I wouldn't bother to see them perform."
He mentioned: "A while back, back in ’95 or ’96, there was some conversation about me stepping in to help them with the bass. After that, they worked things out with the guy who was originally doing it."
"I received an invitation to catch their show at Earl's Court. I left because it was pretty dull. I decided to try again and went to see them in upstate New York with Clem Burke from Blondie. But honestly, I couldn't stand being there."
