Outsider Luca Nardi stuns Novak Djokovic with Indian Wells victory

Luca Nardi, a fortunate participant who lost in the qualifying round, defeated Novak Djokovic and eliminated him from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

At 20 years old, Nardi was able to secure a spot in the last-16 round and will be going against American player, Tommy Paul. To get to this point, Nardi was able to defeat the world's number one player 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. It's worth noting that Nardi, who is ranked No. 123 globally, is the lowest-ranked player to achieve this feat against Djokovic at the ATP Masters 1000 or Grand Slam level.

"I have no idea how I managed to stay calm," he stated. "I believe it's a miracle since I'm a young man of 20 years, ranked 100th in the world, and defeating Novak is insane."

Nardi secured his win by serving his sixth ace. He produced 16 impressive shots in the last set, while his opponent, who had previously won the Indian Wells championship five times, only managed to make two shots.

Djokovic remarked that it's okay since it's a regular occurrence in the game. You simply must come to terms with it. You'll encounter wins and losses, and he intends to continue winning. Naturally, every victory he achieves will be phenomenal, particularly since he hasn't been playing his best in the previous 3-4 tournaments. Djokovic is eager to break out of the negative pattern he's been experiencing.

Paul made it to the final 16 by defeating Ugo Humbert from France with a score of 6-4, 6-4. In addition, several other players including Holger Rune, Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz, and Grigor Dimitrov also secured a place in the next round by winning their matches in straight sets. Dimitrov will face off against Daniil Medvedev, the fourth seed, who won his match against Sebastian Korda 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 by playing three sets.

Despite being the top-rated British player, Cameron Norrie suffered a loss in a thrilling match against Gaël Monfils, a seasoned French player. The match went down to the wire and was decided in the final set, with Monfils mounting an impressive comeback to secure the win. Norrie had started off strongly, leading by a set and a score of 3-0 before Monfils turned things around.

Monfils fought back to tie the score in an incredible second set tie-break where he managed to score a point with an unexpected underhand serve. He then captured the set after a breathtaking 31-shot rally.
