Australian Open 2024 results: Novak Djokovic beats qualifier Dino Prizmic in his longest first-round match

The champ of Australian Open, Novak Djokovic, succeeded in winning the longest first-round match in a Grand Slam tournament with considerable difficulty from qualifier Dino Prizmic.

The Serbian tennis player, who is trying to set a new record with his 11th men's title, took four hours and one minute to defeat the young 18-year-old from Croatia in a 4 set match. The final scores were 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, and 6-4.

During his debut Grand Slam match, Prizmic was able to prevent losing six match points, but unfortunately, Djokovic ultimately triumphed.

Meanwhile, Marin Cilic, the 2018 runner-up from Croatia, suffered a defeat at the hands of Hungarian Fabian Marozsan. Marozsan won the match 6-1 2-6 6-2 7-5.

Matteo Berrettini, who was once a semi-finalist at the tournament, pulled out of his scheduled first-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas due to a foot injury. As a result, the Greek player who is seeded seventh will now face Zizou Bergs from Belgium instead.

This year, the Australian Open will last for 15 days, as the event organizers are aiming to prevent late closing times. Furthermore, the tournament will begin on a Sunday for the first time.
