Northern Lights and Perseid meteors light up Wales' night sky

A vibrant mix of green and purple colors lit up the sky above the Trwyn Du lighthouse in Penmon, Anglesey.

People in Wales who love looking at the stars stayed up late to see the Perseid meteor shower. They were also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights during the night.

Photos taken Monday night and early Tuesday morning show the views from Caerphilly in the south to Penmon on Anglesey in the north.

The celestial display known as the Northern Lights, also called aurora borealis, has been visible in the UK consistently in recent months and is predicted to continue to be seen in the future.

Every year, the Perseids meteor shower happens as our planet moves through the leftover debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet in space.
