A woman has accused Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly of sexually assaulting her at a hotel in Dubai last year, promising her a role in a movie. Pauly has refuted the allegations and plans to handle them through legal channels.
A woman from Ernakulam district accused Pauly as the sixth person involved in her complaint, along with five others, including a producer. Pauly responded on Instagram, saying he was falsely accused of abusing a girl. He stated that the allegations are untrue and he will do whatever it takes to prove his innocence and hold those responsible accountable. He thanked everyone for their support and assured that he will handle the situation through legal means.
The Special Investigation Team, which was created to address sexual misconduct complaints in the Malayalam film industry following the Justice Hema Committee report, will be looking into the case. The report, released recently, brought attention to the prevalence of sexual misconduct in the industry and led to numerous accusations against well-known individuals.
After the news came out, a number of actors, including CPI(M) MLA Mukesh, Jayasurya, Baburaj, and Siddique, had legal trouble. Ranjith, a film director, stepped down as head of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy because of allegations of sexual misconduct. Pauly is facing serious charges, including rape, for an incident that reportedly took place in November 2023.
