- Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly refutes claims of sexual misconduct, declares his intention to battle the accusations.
Kochi: Just a few hours after a complaint was filed against Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly (40) in Ernakulam district of Kerala, the actor has denied the allegations and stated that he is willing to do whatever it takes to defend himself in court.
The woman stated in her report that she was deceived with promises of being able to act in movies. She also alleged that she was sexually attacked by a group of six people, including Pauly who is now facing charges as the sixth suspect, outside of India.
In a last-minute press conference on Tuesday evening, Pauly denied any knowledge of the woman in question. He claimed he had never met or spoken to her before and called the news reports false. Pauly stated he was willing to do whatever it takes to prove his innocence.
"It will be a while before the truth is revealed, and I am willing to work with everyone to ensure that happens. About forty-five days ago, the police contacted me about a complaint made against me. I informed them that I had never encountered or even met the woman who filed the complaint, and as a result, the police decided to close the case."
There could be a secret plan at play here... Other people might be working together to make these accusations against me. My family is supporting me. I spoke with my mother first, and she reassured me that everything will be okay. I am going to fight this legal battle, not just for myself, but for anyone else facing false accusations. I only know one person mentioned in the case, a producer I met in Dubai.
The actor shared on social media platform X that there was a fake news story claiming they abused a girl. They assured everyone that this was completely false and they are committed to proving their innocence. They will take legal action against those responsible for spreading these falsehoods. Thank you for your support, the situation will be resolved through legal means.
According to reports, after learning about the Hema Committee report last month and the multiple complaints being filed, she decided to submit a new complaint against Pauly.
The Oonukal police in Ernakulam district have filed a complaint against Pauly, which will be transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) created by the Kerala government to investigate all instances of sexual exploitation of women within the Malayalam film industry.
Pauly, a recipient of two Kerala Film Awards, began his career as a software engineer before transitioning into the film industry in 2010. He has starred in more than 50 films, many of which have been successful at the box office.
He started producing movies with 'Action Hero Biju' in 2016 through his own production company Pauly Jr. Pictures, and it ended up being a huge success.
Problems have been escalating in the Malayalam film industry after the Hema Committee report was finally released last month, exposing widespread sexual exploitation of women in the industry.
The Kerala Police have filed complaints against 11 individuals, with nine of them being from the film industry, following accusations made by actresses.
The individuals being accused in this case are actor and now CPI-M legislator Mukesh Madhavan, along with Siddique, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu, Maniyanpilla Raju, filmmakers Ranjith and V.K. Prakash, as well as production managers Vichu and Noble.
Actor Baburaj and director Tulasidas have also been mentioned, but no official complaints have been filed against them yet.
