Nigel Pearson reveals he had to learn to walk again after ‘neurological situation’
Nigel Pearson, the ex-manager of Leicester and Watford, has shared that he had to relearn how to walk in the last year following his recovery from a neurological condition.
The 61-year-old expressed his feelings of "frustration" regarding his health after being spotted using crutches near the end of his time with Bristol City in October 2023. He also shared a message on social media, expressing gratitude to those who have helped him throughout his recovery process.
"Trying to walk again has been an amazing struggle," he shared. "I've gained a deep gratitude for the support from my family, friends, coworkers, and medical staff. I also had the fantastic chance to travel to the US with my dad and meet family in Wisconsin for the very first time."
In a February 2023 interview with the Guardian, Pearson shared his passion for the great outdoors and mentioned that he has recently had the opportunity to return to the countryside.
"I’ve had the chance to ride my bike in the Peak District and practice my golf swing at the driving range, although I could use some improvement in my follow-through (but thankfully, I haven't fallen!). He continued, "Even though my outlook isn’t completely clear, I truly believe that staying positive and sharing laughter can be incredibly healing. I saw this firsthand while celebrating my birthday on a canal narrowboat with my old school friends. There's always a glimmer of hope in the distance – fresh opportunities and new challenges are on the horizon."
Pearson didn't reveal if he plans to continue his management career down the road. He began his coaching journey with Carlisle in 1998 and has since managed teams like Southampton, Leicester, Watford, Derby, and Bristol City, in addition to a stint at OH Leuven in Belgium.
