Nicholas Hoult on rekindling bond with About A Boy mother Toni Collette after 22 years | HELLO!
"It was amazing. She's an incredible woman," he said. "She really looked after me during the filming of About a Boy. Now that I'm older and changed, it felt unusual to be back with her, but I was really glad."
The actor from Skins, recognized for his performances in The Great and Mad Max: Fury Road, shared his appreciation for the impact that Toni and Hugh had on his career in its early stages.
"She and Hugh Grant played a significant role in kickstarting my career; they were both excellent role models for me," he mentioned.
The remarks follow shortly after Toni, 52, shared her thoughts on the "distinct motherly instinct" she experiences while portraying her character's role as a mother on screen.
"It's quite surreal for me because I've portrayed numerous maternal roles, and there's definitely a nurturing vibe that comes with them," she shared with Entertainment Weekly. The actress also mentioned how incredible it is to have worked alongside someone in their childhood, only to see them grown up as an adult now.
"Watching you grow into such a developed person and experiencing those moments with him was incredible," she said. "I could sense all his thoughts and really feel the intensity of his emotions. It filled me with pride."
I thought to myself, "Wow, he's so incredibly skilled." I was genuinely impressed. After that, we had the chance to spend time together and truly become friends, which has been such a wonderful experience. It's always a pleasure to reconnect.
Nicholas shared with the magazine, "I have really great memories of working on About a Boy and how nice and supportive Toni was to me at that time. Since then, I've seen her in many amazing projects, and she truly is one of the most talented actresses out there."
"She spreads cheer, brightness, and laughter wherever she is. It’s such a delightful experience to reunite with her and share those moments together."
Earlier this week, Nicholas had the chance to catch up with his co-star Hugh during an interview for Variety. They reminisced about their time working together and shared some heartwarming stories.
Nicholas confessed that during high-pressure situations, he tends to freeze up and struggles to absorb what's going on around him, reflecting on their initial screen test together.
"I don't really remember the details, but I do know that I had to wear a school uniform. The school I was attending at the time didn't have one, so I ended up borrowing my mom's old boat shoes and painted them black with a marker."
