The destruction of a high-rise building will be the initial one to utilize explosives in a city after over a decade and a half.
Hexham House in Walker, Newcastle, was scheduled to be demolished in May, but the project was delayed as officials worked on developing a safe plan for the demolition.
The abandoned tall building will be destroyed on November 16, as confirmed by the Newcastle City Council.
Councillor Paula Maines stated that demolishing the building was crucial to the authority's efforts to revitalize the area.
Vacant apartment buildings in the neighborhood are being torn down to make room for the construction of 50 new houses.
Next to Titan House, a neighboring building was demolished last year using specialized machinery that slowly chipped away at the structure. This information was reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
However, the council expressed concerns about the situation and determined that a controlled explosion was the safest choice for dealing with Hexham House on Duncan Street.
People who live close to the building will need to temporarily evacuate their homes for a maximum of four hours during the demolition.
The local government has vowed to provide community services in the neighborhood, and a live broadcast of the explosion will be accessible on the internet.
"I can't wait to see the first planned explosion in Newcastle in almost twenty years. I hope that people from the area will also tune in online to witness the demolition of the building," stated Ms. Maines.
The most recent blast in Newcastle happened in 2008, when Sir Bobby Robson ignited the detonation to demolish the former Scottish and Newcastle Brewery.
