Newcastle remain rock bottom after thrashing at Leicester

Newcastle

Newcastle had another disappointing afternoon as they suffered defeat in all eight of their Premiership clashes this season. They currently find themselves at the bottom of the table, struggling to keep up with the rest of the teams. Leicester, on the other hand, had a successful day as they scored seven tries, three of which were by the outstanding Tommy Reffell. They continue to improve each game with the return of their international players. However, for Newcastle, it seems like a grim winter is ahead.

Although Newcastle has many enthusiastic and skilled young players, they are lacking more experienced players who can boost the team's performance. To make matters worse, they haven't won a match in the league since March and have only won twice in 2023. Head coach, Alex Codling, is urging the club to plan for the future and make important decisions. Newcastle has been smart with their budget in a competition hindered by financial problems, but their choice to spend less than the salary cap backfired in their recent game against a team loaded with international players.

In the upcoming future, Newcastle needs to make determinations concerning their plan of action. Even though the young players possess immense talent, it creates challenges in the present time. These are straightforward and irrefutable realities. I am unable to sugarcoat this information in any other manner, yet I refrain from condemning the athletes.

Currently, I work on a week-to-week basis and put in 100 hours each week. It's definitely a huge challenge, but my job is to uplift the spirits of my colleagues and keep moving forward. Though it may be difficult in the short run, there are several gifted youngsters at the club who will ensure long-term success. Unfortunately, there's a lack of experienced individuals around them to help guide them along the way. However, I won't let that discourage me. I'll keep persevering, much like a boxer who can only endure so many hits before hitting back.

I receive payment as a coach and I have great admiration for the club. They have had to face challenging decisions related to money matters. However, it is extremely challenging when you have to compete with teams that have all of their resources in place, on a weekly basis. I have a strong sense of pride in my players because they always give their best effort every week. I will never cast aspersions on my players' commitment and camaraderie.

Codling mentioned a certain attitude that was displayed in the beginning of the game, with Newcastle dominating Leicester and earning a penalty that resulted in a successful goal. However, the Falcons faced setbacks when they were penalized and pushed back, leading to Leicester's Reffell scoring the first try of the match.

After gaining control of the breakdown with Reffell and his team, Leicester easily dominated their opponent. They showed impressive cutting skills that they lacked at the start of the season, and even managed to secure a bonus point before halftime. The following tries were scored by Matt Scott, who took a horizontal pass from Ben Youngs to step over, and Reffell, who scored his second try in the left corner. Jasper Wiese also scored a close-range try, bringing Leicester's lead to 26-3.

In the second half, thirteen minutes had passed when Reffell was able to score three goals. He did it by finishing another strong offensive move in the right corner of the field. Leicester did well to play to their strengths and expose the weak points in Newcastle's defense. Things got worse for the Falcons when Pedro Rubiolo, their blindside flanker, was given a yellow card for making a high tackle on Wiese. This meant that Newcastle was short one player, with only 14 on the field. Hassell-Collins, who was waiting patiently on the left side of the field, was able to score a simple goal.

Leicester ended their afternoon on a high note with their seventh try, securing their third consecutive win. This is quite an achievement for the team, especially after only winning one of their first five matches. To make things even better, they will soon have Anthony Watson back on their team. Watson was unable to play in the World Cup due to a calf injury but has since re-signed with the Tigers after his short-term contract with the Rugby Football Union over the summer. Their head coach, Dan McKellar, plans to bring Watson back into the team for their upcoming European double-header matches.

According to McKellar, Anthony will be eligible to be chosen for the next week. He's an exceptional player who is British and Irish Lions international. He performed remarkably for the Tigers last season. He is fully prepared to come back and showcase his skills, which is quite thrilling.
