Newcastle knows that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is considering other possibilities after not playing in the Reds' 2-0 victory against Ipswich on Saturday.

The 27-year-old player, who desires to play more often as a starter in his preferred center-back position, did not make it into Arne Slot's lineup for the first Premier League match at Portman Road this past weekend.

Jarell Quansah was chosen to play at center-back with Virgil van Dijk before being substituted by the Dutch coach for Ibrahima Konate at halftime.

The latest information from Mail Sport suggests that Newcastle is keeping an eye on Gomez as they prepare for the upcoming summer transfer deadline. The team is interested in strengthening Eddie Howe's defense after struggling in the Premier League last season.

The Magpies tried to sign Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi again before their match against Southampton on Saturday. They increased their offer to get closer to Palace's asking price of £65million.

Newcastle are keeping an eye on Joe Gomez after he made it known that he wants to depart from Liverpool.

The defender from Liverpool and England is eager to find a new team where he can play more.

Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his defense this summer following a season with many defensive issues.

The offer, which Palace turned down, was higher than the £60m paid for their most expensive signing, Alexander Isak.

Newcastle is now in even more urgent need of a new centre-back after their tough 1-0 victory against Southampton at St James' Park. Fabian Schar's suspension for three matches, due to his red card for headbutting Ben Brereton Diaz, has left a gap in the team that needs to be filled.

Howe stated after the game that the Swiss defender was tricked by Brereton Diaz, who dramatically collapsed to the ground after their heads made contact.

Magpies legend Alan Shearer called his reaction "s***housery," while Howe referred to it as a "well handled situation."

Gomez's possible transfer to Newcastle United for £45m was canceled last month while discussing the deal for Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle made a fourth offer for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi over the weekend, but it was turned down.

Their desire for a new defender increased after Fabian Schar received a red card on Saturday.

Aston Villa, Fulham, Chelsea, and teams from other countries have also expressed interest in the English player. He has played for his national team 15 times and was selected for the 26-man squad for Euro 2024 by Gareth Southgate.

Gomez, who has been with Liverpool the longest out of all the current players, joined the team from Charlton in 2015 for a cost of £3.5m. He has played in 248 games for the club since then.
