During a press conference, Olivier Senn, a director of the Swiss organizing committee, stated that he was unable to specify the exact location of the crash.
Mr. Senn mentioned that law enforcement and the district attorney's office were looking into the matter.
Earlier in the week, Furrer placed 44th in the junior women's time trial.
According to UCI sports director Peter van den Abeele, the family of the rider has requested that the nine-day championships be allowed to proceed.
The elite races for both women and men, which are set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, will take place on the same stretch of road where the tragic accident occurred.
The UCI gala event that was set for Saturday night has been called off, and the public events celebrating races slated for Friday have also been canceled.

Second Swiss Cyclist Fatality
Furrer is the second cyclist from Switzerland to pass away in a little over a year due to a crash on local roads.
During the Tour de Suisse in June 2023, Gino Mader lost control and fell into a ravine while descending. Tragically, the 26-year-old passed away from his injuries the following day.
"It's clear that this is yet another heartbreaking loss," Mr. Senn remarked. "There are many parallels and shared emotions involved. Today is dedicated to Muriel."
