Newcastle United have now asked to be kept informed of any developments concerning Moussa Diaby, with the Daily Mail reporting that the Magpies face a battle with Arsenal for the Bayer Leverkusen star.

Diaby is attracting attention after another superb spell for Xabi Alonso’s side. He has scored eight goals and contributed four assists in all competitions this term.

He has returned to the Arsenal radar in recent days, following the news that Mykhaylo Mudryk has joined Chelsea instead of the Gunners. Reports from Sky Sports on Tuesday claimed that Mikel Arteta’s men had made contact over a potential move for the 23-year-old.

The Daily Mail also suggests that the Premier League leaders want Diaby. But they are not the only team in the division tracking the Frenchman.

In fact, the Mail reports that Newcastle have now made an enquiry for Diaby. And they hope to be kept informed of any developments on his future.

It is noted that Leverkusen’s demands have previously put the Magpies off a deal. But, while they wish to keep him this month, a sale is not out of the question if they cannot offload some of their other players.

He will still not come cheap. Reports from 90min on Tuesday suggested that Leverkusen want more than £88 million for the youngster. That would smash Newcastle’s transfer record.

Nevertheless, it looks to be a wise move for Eddie Howe’s men to stay in the loop on Diaby’s future. They obviously have the means to compete for almost any player in world football. So they may want to make a final decision on Diaby when it appears the interest elsewhere is getting serious.

He has been labelled an ‘astonishing‘ player previously. And he is only going to get better. So it would be a statement if Newcastle could now bring him to St James’ Park.
