Moses Itauma blasts through Ilja Mezencev, Mark Chamberlain stops Joshua Wahab in Riyadh in first round - Eurosport

Moses Itauma

On the Tyson Fury v Oleksandr Usyk card in Riyadh, Moses Itauma showcased an impressive performance in the second round and claimed his first belt. This left Ilja Mezencev astonished. The exciting match was broadcasted live on TNT Sports Box Office.

Itauma, who is only 19 years old but appears to be the most promising young heavyweight fighter in Britain and possibly beyond, was participating in his ninth professional fight.

In the city of Ryadh, he faced an experienced fighter named Mezencev from Germany. The match was for the vacant WBO intercontinental heavyweight championship.

Itauma had a strong start and aimed to continue his momentum, as he was only one year and two days away from breaking the record of Mike Tyson as the youngest heavyweight champion.

The adolescent swiftly made an entrance and delivered some forceful punches with his left hand in the beginning of the match, facing off against a fighter born in Kazakhstan who was his senior by nine years.

At the conclusion of the initial round, Itauma delivered even more forceful punches from his left hand, striking Mezencev with great strength. If the bell hadn't rung, it wouldn't be unexpected for the referee to intervene.

Itauma almost achieved his fifth first-round victory, but the sound of the bell intervened. However, shortly after the beginning of the second round, he managed to deliver powerful blows that knocked his opponent down to the ground. Though the opponent rose again, he appeared to struggle maintaining his balance, and the referee brought the fight to an end.

After that heated confrontation, Frank Sanchez and Agit Kabayel faced each other in a match for the WBC heavyweight title eliminator. Both boxers had never lost before and went into the fight with perfect records.

Kabayel was considered to have a small advantage before the fight, and the champion would potentially have the chance to compete against the victor of Fury versus Usyk at a later time.

During the seventh round, Kabayel almost knocked down his opponent with a powerful punch to the body, causing him to be counted out for seven seconds. Although Sanchez was able to get up with a minute left in the round, another punch to the body forced him to his knees again. Unfortunately, he was unable to get back up before the count and lost due to being consistently worn down by Kabayel.

Mark Chamberlain fought Joshua Wahab before the big Itauma fight. Wahab had moved up to the lightweight category, but he got knocked down by Chamberlain's amazing punch. He was able to get up again and beat the count. Later, Wahab came back and defeated Chamberlain, achieving his seventh first-round stoppage win in his career.

Chamberlain has recently secured the WBC silver lightweight championship title, giving him the opportunity to pursue his goals in higher divisions.

Sergey Kovalev, who is 41 years old and has won the light heavyweight championship three times, kicked off the main card by facing off against Robin Safar.

Kovalev didn't perform as well as he used to, and in the final round he was behind in points. He was hit hard with a right-hand and almost lost by knockout, but the bell rang and saved him from the defeat.

Kovalev was consistently pursued as he aimed to continue his career, but Safar - ten years younger - persisted with the attack and secured a unanimous victory.
