On Saturday night, the British teenage prodigy Moses Itauma secured an awe-inspiring victory in the second round by knocking out Iija Mezencev.
The young man, who is 19 years old, has previously stated that he aims to be the youngest person in boxing history to win a world championship title. He has now taken another step towards achieving this goal in Saudi Arabia.
Itauma's plans were obvious right at the start of the fight when he advanced towards his opponent from Germany and started landing a series of fierce combos with ease.
In the last few moments of the initial round, the adolescent made his competitor collapse onto the mat. Nevertheless, the judges ruled it as a shove coming from the British celebrity.
Nonetheless, Itauma wasted no time in the second round in throwing a fierce right punch at Mezencev, causing him to fall to the ground.
The talented British athlete, Moses Itauma, delivered an impressive knockout blow to his opponent, Iija Mezencev, leaving the audience stunned.
A 19-year-old person managed to maintain their unbeatable record of 9-0 following a win over a German opponent in Riyadh.
Itauma attained the WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight championship title after winning the match.
The German appeared to be extremely confused and unsteady as he stood up again, causing the referee to end the match.
Itauma has won the WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight championship in Saudi Arabia, which has led to his professional record being extended to 9-0.
After the match, Itauma expressed his excitement by stating, "I am prepared and this is merely the beginning of my success. I simply fulfill my duties by entering the ring, and I am thankful to have had this opportunity. As you can see, my performance was flawless today. Every aspect is significant."
This title is available to anyone. Whenever I make a challenge, nobody seems willing to confront me. However, now that I possess this championship title, I am content to take on any contender.
In January, Itauma had a conversation with Mail Sport where he described his boxing goals, one of which is to become the youngest world champion since Mike Tyson.
"I believe I can accomplish it. It was much more feasible during Tyson's time because you didn't have to deal with promoters and mandatory opponents. Even if I fail to attain the goal, I will still be considered in that same conversation," he expressed.
I'm determined to start this year with all my might and become the world champion in the heavyweight division at a young age. However, I understand that it's not necessarily guaranteed, and if I don't achieve it, I won't get upset about it. While it's a goal I have, I know that sometimes things don't go as planned, so I'll simply set my sights on the next objective.
The young person dreams of becoming the youngest champion in the world, striving to break the record set by Mike Tyson.
Itauma declared during his interview after the fight that no one was exempt from his domination, as evidenced by his noteworthy victory.
Earlier tonight, Robin Safar triumphed over former two-time light-heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev by delivering a powerful knockdown and outscoring him throughout the fight.
Kovalev participated in his second fight after losing to Canelo Alvarez in November 2019. This time, he joined the cruiserweight division and faced undefeated Swedish boxer Robin Safar in Riyadh. However, he was not able to showcase the same level of skills he had in his prime.
Kovalev was losing the fight and then got knocked down at the end of the last round by Safar's left hook followed by a right hand punch.
At 41 years old, Kovalev stood up when the fight ended, but the three judges all gave the victory to Safar.
Throughout the 10-round competition, Kovalev appeared as a mere shadow of his former self, which may result in the termination of his impressive career.
