Aston Villa make transfer approach for Middlesbrough’s Morgan Rogers
Aston Villa reached out to Middlesbrough with interest in securing the services of Morgan Rogers, who currently plays as a forward.
Villa manager Unai Emery is keen on signing Rogers, who is now considered the main transfer goal for the team during the January transfer period. Rogers, who is 21 years old, has become a highly sought-after player.
Reports suggest that Rogers, who signed for Middlesbrough in the second tier of English football just six months ago, is enthusiastic about the possibility of joining Aston Villa. The team is currently ranked third in the top-flight Premier League.
There is currently no confirmed deal, however, Rogers and Emery are very interested in completing the transfer and have submitted a proposal to Middlesbrough.
Rogers, a player who has been utilized in numerous attacking roles by Middlesbrough's head coach Michael Carrick this season, participated in the entire 90-minute game of the Championship team's recent loss to Villa in the FA Cup.
The Villa team is also about to finalize the recruitment of a young right-back named Kosta Nedeljkovic from Red Star Belgrade. The player will have a medical check-up on Friday.
In this transfer season, Emery has made it his main goal for Villa to acquire youthful players who have the potential to grow, and this is where Rogers and Nedeljkovic come in as they meet this criteria.
Rogers initiated his professional journey at West Brom, but was recruited by Manchester City during the summer of 2019.
The flexible attacker had temporary stints at Lincoln City, Bournemouth, and Blackpool before joining Middlesbrough permanently last year.
Rogers has mainly played as an attacking midfielder for the Championship team this season. He has also played for England's youth teams, up to the under-20 level.
At the start of the month, Emery, the manager of Villa, agreed that it was necessary for the club to get rid of some players before purchasing more because of the rules of Financial Fair Play (FFP).
According to Emery, it's necessary to comply with the regulations and come to terms with the fact that in order to recruit new players, we must remove someone from our current squad.
To comply with financial fair play regulations, it is imperative that we acknowledge and conform to the stipulated guidelines.
The owners desire to put more money into the team, but also understand that financial fair play rules must be followed. Smart decisions are being made during the transfer periods in order to enhance the team's roster. If we are not able to acquire the desired players now, we will consider doing so during the next transfer window in the summer.
Emery has stated that Calum Chambers and Bertrand Traore are free to depart from Villa in January. These players have been fully aware of their situation and have been notified of this decision.
