Wales fans' Montenegro flight from Cardiff cancelled after bird strike

Montenegro

Richard Grigg and his companion, Iwan, are currently awaiting confirmation on whether they will be able to catch a different flight to Montenegro.

Many Wales football supporters who were supposed to travel to watch their team play against Montenegro on Monday had their flight cancelled. This happened because the travel company organizing their trip stated that their plane hit a bird while in the air.

The flight from Cardiff Airport was supposed to depart on Friday evening, but it was cancelled before reaching Cardiff due to a "bird strike," travel company Wonky Sheep informed fans in a message.

They told their customers to stay home and wait for the latest information while they worked on making new arrangements. Some supporters even decided to book their own flights from London.

Wonky Sheep has confirmed that they were not able to find another option and have decided to cancel the trip.

The company said sorry and explained in a statement released on Sunday. They mentioned that they made every effort to resolve the issue by working with multiple providers for the last two days. However, they encountered several obstacles that prevented them from finding a solution.

We didn't want to disappoint our fans, but they have been really patient and understanding in a tough situation, and we appreciate that.

The person in charge was working on finding a way to resolve the situation when the aircraft carrying the fans was affected by a bird strike and was unable to take off.

At first, they found a new plane to use, but there was no available team to fly it.

The company informed fans quickly and made sure those who needed a place to stay in Cardiff were taken care of.

Welsh supporters were eagerly anticipating news about the possibility of rescheduling their flight.

Welsh supporter Richard Grigg was supposed to fly to Podgorica in Montenegro from Cardiff Airport, after watching Wales play against Turkey at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday night.

He mentioned prior to the cancellation: "Last night, while the game was at halftime, we got a message instructing us not to go to the airport and suggesting that we return home," he explained.

We are currently in a state of anticipation as we await confirmation of their flight arrangements. If it does not come through, we will have to explore alternative possibilities.

We used our Wonky Sheep points to book this flight and we would prefer a non-stop flight from Cardiff. If not, we will have to make our way to London for the connecting flight.

Some supporters didn't want to wait, so they decided to purchase a separate flight from Heathrow, according to him.

Waiting for updates can be a bit annoying, and we would appreciate some clarity so we can come up with an alternative strategy.

Cardiff Airport announced on Sunday morning that they have received information that the tour operator and airline are putting in a lot of effort to make new plans for expected fans. The airport is staying in touch with all involved parties to keep updated on the situation.
