Moderna Stock – Educators, residents get Moderna vaccine at Glenbrook South event
Around 1,200 doses of the Moderna vaccine to combat COVID-19 were distributed to educators and members of public recently at Glenbrook South High School in Glenview.
“We’re very excited — it’s one of those journeys we’ve been traveling on for the last few months,” said District 225 Associate Superintendent Raoul Gravel.
Gravel said Jewel-Osco reached out to the district two weeks prior to the event. The company stated it had access to the vaccine, and asked the school district to serve as a hosting site so members of the communities of Glenview and Northbrook, and the surrounding area including Northfield Township, could be vaccinated, Gravel said.
Educators, as well as residents deemed high risk, were eligible, Gravel said.
School was in session during the vaccination event, which took place in the west cafeteria in an area that was cordoned off from the rest of the school.
District 225 has offered a hybrid model for attendance since the start of the semester Jan. 19, and around 50 percent of students are attending in-person classes, Gravel said. A small number of teachers are teaching from off-campus, he added, but the district anticipates teachers will return to on-campus instruction as they are vaccinated.
People who received the first dose of the vaccine Thursday will return for the second and final dose April 8, Gravel said.
