Thousands of people have been relocated, and a hospital is currently functioning with only one department after a severe storm hit Spain's Costa del Sol, unleashing heavy rain and strong winds.
Only two weeks after devastating flash floods claimed over 200 lives and ravaged homes, the nation is facing another challenge with rising floodwaters, prompted by a red weather warning.
In the Malaga region, approximately 3,000 residents near the Guadalhorce River have been relocated, and the primary hospital in the area has restricted its services to emergencies only. Images shared on social media depict healthcare workers navigating through water that has flooded the hallways of the hospital.
The Costa del Sol, home to well-known tourist spots such as Marbella, Estepona, and Vélez, is facing the full impact of a severe weather event called a "Dana." This could bring as much as 7.1 inches of rain to certain regions in just a matter of hours.
Flood alerts are in effect for a large part of southern Spain, as weather experts warn that rivers might rise beyond their banks and winds reaching speeds of 74 miles per hour could exacerbate the conditions.
Schools in Malaga, Valencia, and several areas of Catalonia have canceled classes. The Spanish meteorological agency Aemet has issued warnings about possible rainfall and storms that could be “intense to torrential.”
Valencia Faces Red Weather Alert After Floods
A red weather warning has been issued in Valencia, marking the highest alert level, only two weeks after the province experienced severe flash floods that caused significant destruction.
Spain's meteorological agency, Aemet, released a new alert just after 6 PM local time, indicating that the warning will remain in effect today and tomorrow because of the rainfall.
Valencia has now joined Malaga and Tarragona, both of which are currently at the highest alert level, marked in red.

Benamargosa River Overflows Its Banks Partially
According to El Pais, the Benamargosa River in the Axarquia area has overflowed its banks to some extent.
The water level in the river has risen quickly in the past few hours due to the overflow from the nearby Solano dam, which typically serves to keep the area safe.
Around 4 pm, the Benamargosa Town Hall recommended that residents stay inside their homes. For those in areas likely to flood, they should relocate to upper floors and steer clear of the riverbank.
The flooding has affected various sectors and a number of houses in the region.

Valencia Chief's Long Lunch Sparks Anger Amid Floods
Public frustration peaked on Saturday as 130,000 demonstrators took to the streets of Valencia, demanding the resignation of Mr. Mazon. Protest signs displayed messages like: “You killed us” and “Our hands are stained with mud, yours with blood.” Mr. Mazon’s office acknowledged that he was having lunch at a restaurant close to the regional government offices in Valencia, but did not reveal who he was dining with. Reports from Spanish media indicate that he remained at the restaurant until 6pm, by which time the town of Utiel was already experiencing severe flooding, and the national weather service, Aemet, had issued a red alert. His government’s emergency meeting began an hour prior, at 5pm.
Mr. Mazon's conservative party has requested that he clarify his activities. He promised to offer explanations during his appearance in parliament this week and mentioned on Monday, as reported by EuroNews, that "there may have been errors."

Bodies Of Missing Spanish Boys Found After Floods
The Civil Guard announced on Wednesday that the remains of two young brothers, who disappeared during the floods in Spain's eastern Valencia region two weeks ago, have been discovered.
Ruben and Izan Matias Calatayud, ages 3 and 5, were discovered in different places close to Catarroja, about 6 miles away from their home in Torrent, a neighborhood in Valencia. They went missing during the flood that occurred at the end of October.
Last week, their aunt Barbara Sastre informed Spain's state TVE that the boys' mother was in Valencia for work and their father was with them at home when the flood occurred.
"They pulled all three of them out," she explained. Their father, who hasn't been named, attempted to hold onto them, but they were carried off by the rushing water, as reported by the state news agency EFE.
He managed to stay alive by gripping onto a tree, TVE reported.
Sastre expressed to TVE that the uncertainty had completely devastated the family.
