Cristiano Ronaldo fans bombard BBC Sport's social media and urge people to 'report' and UNFOLLOW'...

Misstiano Penaldo

Supporters of Cristiano Ronaldo have inundated BBC Sport's Instagram page with numerous memes and angry remarks.

The flood of criticism followed after the TV company labeled a video of Ronaldo missing a penalty against Slovenia as 'Misstiano Penaldo' on Monday evening, with John Terry condemning the BBC as shameful.

They had to take back their words shortly after when Ronaldo scored during the penalty shootout, leading Portugal to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024.

Ronaldo's fans have gathered in large numbers, flooding a BBC Sport Instagram video of Wimbledon player Ons Jabeur showing off her skills with negative comments. They have also targeted other similar posts with their criticism.

One fan wrote, "Everyone should unfollow and report."

Hundreds of supporters of Cristiano Ronaldo have created chaos in the comment section of a post on BBC Sport's Instagram account.

Many people urged others to stop following and report BBC Sport after they called Ronaldo 'Misstiano Penaldo'.

John Terry criticized the BBC for using language that he believed made fun of the Portuguese player.

Ronaldo was crying after he missed a penalty kick during the first half of extra time in the match against Slovenia, but he managed to score during the shoot-out.

Another person expressed their outrage, calling it a major disrespect.

One person proudly claimed that Ronaldo has a larger following than all of your channels combined. With a total of 633 million Instagram followers, Ronaldo outranks even BBC News, which is the most popular account on the platform with 27.7 million followers.

"Absolute worst sports profile ever," was the judgment made by another person.

"Apologize in front of everyone," someone suggested.

Nevertheless, there were some individuals who tried to bring some rationality into the conversation: "There are many important problems in the world and you sensitive people are seriously trying to have the British Broadcasting Corporation blocked on social media because of a joke? You are acting like babies."

Supporters of Ronaldo, much like those of Lionel Messi, are famous for being very vocal and loyal on social platforms.

Some people shared a collection of memes related to Ronaldo, such as one showing his rude gesture in a Saudi Pro League game from the previous season and different gifs of him doing his famous 'Siuuu' celebration.

On Monday evening, Ronaldo had a chance to score the game-winning goal in overtime but was stopped by goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

Shortly after missing the shot, the captain of Portugal began to cry, leading his teammates to console him.

Ronaldo's mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, was also emotional when he missed the penalty.

On the other hand, the BBC caused anger among supporters and analysts when they humorously described a video of the penalty miss as 'Misstiano Penaldo'.

Terry posted the caption on Instagram and criticized it as a 'shame', while viewers criticized the company for being 'inappropriate'.

Even though the BBC tried to be funny, fans didn't like their attempt to make football analysis like TikTok. They thought it missed the mark.

MailOnline has reached out to the BBC for a statement.

Ronaldo, whose mother was crying as she watched, made up for his earlier miss by scoring a penalty during the shootout. Portuguese goalkeeper Diogo Costa made three saves, helping to secure his team's spot in the quarter finals of the Euros.

The BBC's disrespectful comment about Ronaldo's performance angered fans who quickly noticed it.

Someone posted on social media saying that it’s hypocritical to talk about men's mental health and then make fun of Cristiano Ronaldo for showing emotions during a difficult and high-pressure moment. The BBC even went as far as mocking him by calling him “Misstiano Penaldo”.

He should be praised for his bravery in stepping up during the shootout and making a goal.

In all my years as a journalist, I have never witnessed such an abysmal example of broadcasting.

Where was this when Kane failed to score against France? Where was this when Messi failed to score against Chile?

The ongoing negativity and stories about me must cease, I am anticipating an apology... pic.twitter.com/Oa57S9izir

You should feel ashamed @BBCSport

Missed penalty kick by Cristiano Ronaldo in the replay.

You guys are acting extremely disgraceful.

Another person commented: 'BBC Sport, this is completely disgraceful. You should feel embarrassed for behaving so unprofessionally'.

Another person commented: "Missiano Penaldo! I find it hard to believe that this is not a fake account on Twitter, and not one from the BBC."

I never wanted to see football punditry become so heavily influenced by TikTok. It's disappointing to see the game I love change in this way.

Just to clarify, in the BBC Sport video that many people have talked about, tennis player Jabeur successfully completed 31 kick-ups.
