The ‘Minecraft’ Movie Looks Like A Soulless Neon Abomination

Pause for a second and observe the image at the beginning of this article.

The look on the faces of this diverse group of vibrant individuals mirrors the exact reaction of all viewers of the trailer. Revulsion, bewilderment, incredulity. Even those of us who aren't avid Minecraft enthusiasts can sense that this film is bound to be a flop.

Every so often, all it takes is one preview to reveal the poor quality of a movie. This is the case with the Borderlands movie and the upcoming Crow reboot. And now, we have been presented with a remarkably terrible trailer for a Minecraft film that nobody in the fan community desired. The creators seem to have never considered who the target audience for this movie is, as it clearly does not cater to true Minecraft fans.

Perhaps, as some people have mentioned, this may be more attractive to a younger audience of children and teenagers. Maybe older individuals like myself are not the intended demographic. However, I still connect with my inner child and as someone who enjoys entertainment geared towards younger audiences, I think I have a solid idea of what would make a successful Minecraft movie. Unfortunately, I have to admit that this is not it.

I am a fan of Jason Momoa and Jack Black, but just having my favorite actors in a film doesn't automatically make me interested. Despite Momoa's unconventional appearance with his strange wig and pink jacket, that is not the only aspect of the trailer that piques my interest.

However, if you decide to make a live-action version, it would be more logical to have a cast of children and teenagers rather than something else. Although I am aware that adults also enjoy playing Minecraft, the franchise is mainly targeted towards kids. In the movie Jumanji, there were adult actors as leads, but it worked because they were actually teenagers portraying adults in the video game and their behavior matched their age.

I don't understand why someone would choose to make such a big mistake. A new movie based on Minecraft that faithfully captures the look of the game would make much more sense, but this bland, lazy version is shocking to me.

The creators of the Borderlands movie are the only ones enthusiastic about the new trailer. They are relieved to have a new competitor for the title of worst video game movie of the year. It's interesting how we thought we had overcome the curse of bad video game adaptations with successful films and shows like Super Mario Bros, The Last Of Us, Arcane, and Fallout. But it seems the curse is not completely lifted.

I think we're going to need more than a miracle worker like Miracle Max to solve this problem.
