Millwall vs Sunderland match suspended due to two medical emergencies in stands as players taken off pitch
The Championship match between Millwall and Sunderland had to be temporarily halted because of two different medical incidents in the crowd.
Millwall player Ryan Leonard was standing by the sideline, poised to make a throw-in, when he noticed something happening among the spectators.
He quickly signaled for help, and paramedics arrived at the scene in the stands.
The event took place in the 41st minute, leading to a pause in the game as both teams were taken off the field.
The match between Millwall and Sunderland was put on hold.
Millwall announced on social media: "The players have exited the field due to a medical emergency in the stands."
"We extend our heartfelt wishes to everyone in the spotlight."
Sunderland was ahead 1-0 when the match was halted, thanks to Aaron Connolly's goal in the 10th minute.
As reported by the Sunderland Echo, the supporter was removed from the stadium on a stretcher.
The first incident reportedly took place in the Dockers Stand, although it's being said that there was another medical emergency happening simultaneously.
The announcement system at the stadium informed fans that there was a medical situation that required attention before the game could continue.
After a 20-minute break, the players made their way back onto the field to finish the rest of the first half.
Sunderland has established a standard in the Championship this season, pursuing a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
The game finally resumed after a break of 20 minutes.
