AC Milan vs Tottenham: Conte returns to Italy for huge Champions ...

14 Feb 2023

TOTTENHAM are returning to a stadium where they have fond memories as they face AC Milan in the Champions League.

Spurs have never lost at the San Siro when facing this week's opponents and famously won 1-0 in 2011 through a Peter Crouch goal under Harry Redknapp.

The tie will also see Antonio Conte return to a stadium he called home for two years.

However, he won't be expecting a warm reception from the Milanese crowd as his time at the San Siro saw him win Serie A for rivals Inter.

As was the case at the World Cup two months ago, all eyes will be on the team's main strikers - Olivier Giroud and Harry Kane.

Round One went to Giroud when he scored France's winner in a clash in Qatar against England that saw Kane miss a penalty.

But both teams have key threats elsewhere with the likes of Chelsea target Rafael Leao for AC Milan and Son Heung-min for Spurs.

And Tottenham's chances of winning have taken a massive hit with Rodrigo Bentancur ruled out for the rest of the season.

That injury has come at the worst possible time with the Uruguayan's midfield partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg suspended.

Conte is therefore likely to look to deputies Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr to hold the line against the hosts midfield.

Italy's Sandro Tonali and Bosnian international Rade Krunic will be the men trying to run the show in the middle of the park against Spurs' inexperienced pairing.

Conte is likely to stick religiously to his favoured 3-4-3 while counterpart Pioli brings an element of mystery having used a 3-4-3, 3-5-2 and 4-2-3-1 in AC Milan's last three games alone.
