It's common for actors to give their fellow cast members a farewell gift once filming is finished. However, Keira Knightley's choice of gift in the past is likely to surprise a few people.
The 39-year-old actor from Love Actually appeared as a guest on The Graham Norton Show last Friday night, November 29.
On the red sofa with her were Cher, Josh Brolin, and Michael Fassbender, who had received her risqué gift over ten years ago.
At 47 years old, Fassbender acted alongside Knightley in the 2011 movie A Dangerous Method, which explores the relationship between the psychoanalysts Carl Jung (portrayed by Fassbender) and Sigmund Freud (played by Viggo Mortensen).
In the meantime, Knightley portrayed Sabrina Spielrein, a patient who becomes a colleague of Jung's. The three characters find themselves caught up in a romantic entanglement.
In one part of the movie, Fassbender's character, Jung, had to give Knightley's character a slap on the backside.
"Essentially, the film revolves around spanking," Knightley shared with Norton. "Michael needed to give me a spanking."
Fassbender teased, saying, “I was the one doing the spanking, and you were on the receiving end.”
Considering the themes explored in A Dangerous Method and the striking visuals of the film, Knightley felt it fitting to gift her fellow actors, including Fassbender, a spanking paddle as a playful keepsake.
"I got Michael and three of the other actors their own spanking paddles," she mentioned.
The actor from Pirates of the Caribbean remembered, “I had to walk into an adult store and ask, ‘Hi, could I get three spanking paddles, please?’”
At another point in the discussion, the actors shared their experiences about the challenges of making the spanking scenes appear authentic while ensuring that Knightley didn't feel any discomfort.
Ultimately, they placed a Yellow Pages book "between her backside and the paddle."
Knightley, set to appear in Netflix's upcoming series Black Doves, shared her honest thoughts on the widely debated scene from Love Actually that many viewers have labeled as "creepy."

The actor is featured in a well-known moment from the holiday favorite, where Andrew Lincoln's character shows up at her door and professes his feelings for her by holding up cardboard signs.
Knightley reminisced about a “weird yet charming” experience she had with a vehicle full of construction workers, who reenacted the moment in an unexpected context.
"I was caught in traffic for a long time the other day when a vehicle full of construction workers next to me began waving their signs just like they do in the movies," Knightley shared.
It had a strange yet charming vibe, similar to what was portrayed in the movie.
Since its debut two decades ago, Love Actually has been reconsidered multiple times, sparking discussions among critics about whether the movie is truly as romantic as it seemed at first.
