Met Office: Snow, ice warning for north-west England
Weather alerts for snow, ice, and sleet have been announced for the majority of the north-west region of England.
The Met Office has released a yellow weather alert for snow and ice, which will be active from 7:00 PM GMT until 10:00 AM GMT on Tuesday.
The western coastal regions, such as Southport, Blackpool, and Formby, are the only locations not affected by the warning.
The cold weather might lead to power outages and could also affect mobile phone service, as well as roads and train travel, according to the weather expert.
A representative from the Met Office stated, "We could see some snow that might cause some issues on Monday night and into Tuesday morning."
They mentioned that snow is expected to build up on elevated areas, with potential accumulations of five to 10 centimeters above 200 meters and as much as 15 to 20 centimeters above 300 meters.
They mentioned that there is a slight possibility of snow accumulating at lower elevations, with 5 to 10 cm potentially causing more disruption. However, this is still quite uncertain, although it seems more likely to occur in areas of Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
The office has advised residents in the impacted regions to exercise caution on icy roads and sidewalks, noting that there is a "small possibility" that certain rural areas may become isolated.
"With the rain, sleet, and snow expected to clear up on Tuesday morning, there is a possibility that ice could develop on surfaces that haven't been treated."
