MATT O’RILEY is on the verge of completing his historic transfer to Brighton after Celtic reached a preliminary agreement with the Seagulls for a potential fee of £30m.

The player was the target of several unsuccessful offers from Italian team Atalanta during the summer. However, the 23-year-old's departure was confirmed when the English club finally agreed to pay Celtic's asking price of £26m.

Mail Sport has learned that the amount, which is £1m higher than the previous record fee received by the club for Jota from Al Ittihad, will increase by an additional £4m through various bonuses over the player's time in England.

The player from Denmark is likely to be absent for Celtic's match against St Mirren tomorrow as he heads down south to finalize the paperwork.

Celtic have decided to transfer Matt O'Riley to Brighton for a price of £30 million.

Brendan Rodgers plans to enhance his team before the transfer window ends.

Brendan Rodgers is set to intensify his search for a new player by targeting Mateusz Bogusz, an attacking midfielder from LAFC who can be signed for approximately £8 million.

The deal with O'Riley shows that the Parkhead club made a fantastic business move.

The young player who came up through the Fulham academy joined the team from MK Dons for a bargain price of only £1.5m in January 2022, when Ange Postecoglou was in charge.

The player achieved victories in three championships, two Scottish Cups, and a League Cup, and then went on to represent their country at the international level.

Atletico Madrid took notice of his strong showings in the Champions League.

Even though Celtic turned down the big offer from the Spanish giants of £20m for him in January, his performance during the season - scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists - kept him highly sought after.
