Wolverhampton Wanderers lead tributes to Matija Sarkic

The football community is mourning the loss of Matija Sarkic, a former goalkeeper for Wolverhampton Wanderers. The club he once played for has expressed their love and appreciation for him in a touching tribute. Sarkic passed away at the young age of 26.

The football player from Montenegro played on the team at Molineux for three years. He had joined the squad after leaving Aston Villa in 2020. Last year, he moved on to join Millwall.

While Sarkic was with Wolves, he participated in both the under-21 and first teams and competed in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

According to Matt Hobbs, Wolves' sporting director, the individual in question was adored by all and highly liked. He always had a cheerful demeanor and was a well-liked individual.

A representative from Wolves confirmed that Sarkic passed away on the morning of June 15th while he was in Budva, Montenegro.

On X platform, which was previously known as Twitter, the team shared that the goalkeeper's departure would be felt deeply as they described him as intelligent, cheerful, kind, and amusing. They stated that he would be missed by everyone.

The information has come as an immense surprise to each one of us. It's devastating and all of the people at Wolves are heartbroken to be informed of Mati's death, according to Hobbs.

According to him, the person in question was extremely modest and behaved towards others in the manner he would prefer for himself. He was an excellent professional and displayed exceptional conduct.

Sarkic hails from Grimbsy and was a frequent member of the Montenegro national team, garnering six out of his total of nine international appearances whilst playing for Wolves.

Following his departure from Aston Villa, the goalkeeper spent some time on loan playing for different clubs like Stratford Town, Shrewsbury Town, Birmingham City, and Stoke City. Eventually, he signed with Millwall in the previous summer season and managed to participate in 32 games for the team.

On Saturday, the past teams of the goalkeeper expressed their condolences for the 26-year-old. Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and Stratford Town all conveyed their sadness upon hearing of the goalie's passing.

Stoke City expressed their deep sorrow and shock through a statement posted on their website.

Sarkic became a member of the Potters on a temporary basis from Wolves during the month of January in the year 2023 and was subsequently selected to participate in eight games.

The representative of Stoke City conveyed that they all were sorrowful about Matija and offered their feelings and compassion to his family and close acquaintances during this grievous period.

The team Sarkic played for on loan in 2020, Shrewsbury Town, expressed their deep sadness upon hearing the news of his death. Sarkic made 26 appearances for the club during his time there.

A representative stated: "At Shrewsbury Town, we are sending our deepest condolences and sympathy to Matija's loved ones during this extremely sorrowful period."
