Swap tea or coffee for matcha tea to reduce anxiety and stress, says Liz Earle
Matcha green tea is a bright green powder made from the ground-up leaves of the camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant that regular green tea comes from. The green tea has been linked to a host of health benefits, which include boosting your mood. Speaking on ITV's This Morning, nutrition expert Liz Earle made a strong case for swapping out your daily cup of tea or coffee for matcha.
Evidence suggests drinking match tea can also promote weight loss.
In a study featured in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1999, researchers revealed that people who consume matcha green tea can increase thermogenesis (the body’s rate of burning calories) to between 35 percent to 43 percent of daily energy expenditure.
The standard rate is eight percent to ten percent of daily energy expenditure, so the increase is huge.
None of the research subjects reported any side effects and there was no change in their heart rates.
