Mason Mount, the midfielder for Manchester United, had to leave the game just 15 minutes into the derby match against Manchester City on Sunday.

Mount's tenure at United has been marked by persistent injury troubles, but he had been performing well in training and games lately. As a result, he was chosen to start at the Etihad Stadium instead of Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

In response to Mount's recent injury, former United captain Gary Neville called the situation "disheartening" while providing commentary for Sky Sports.

He also mentioned that Mount might be experiencing feelings of disappointment, as if he were 'disappointing everyone'.

Neville commented, "Losing a player just 12 minutes into the game isn't ideal. However, Mason Mount seems to have that worn-out expression typical of someone who's spent a lot of time in the gym working on their recovery."

It's discouraging and makes you feel like you're disappointing everyone.

Manchester United player Mason Mount experienced a discouraging injury setback on Sunday.

Mount began the match for United in their away game against Manchester City, but he couldn't finish the first half.

Mount was examined by United's physiotherapist before he exited the game just 13 minutes in.

Former England and Everton player Leon Osman spoke on BBC Radio 5 Live, commenting on Mason Mount's expression, which conveyed everything. He seemed really disappointed, and this was precisely the outcome he was hoping to avoid.

Ruben Amorim provided him with a chance, and he would have preferred to play in several matches. It's a source of frustration for him.

Nearly all the Manchester United players approached him and embraced him. They are all feeling let down for their loss.

Mount's most recent injury didn't appear to result from an opponent's tackle.

The 25-year-old ex-Chelsea player seemed to injure himself while not in possession of the ball, then fell to the ground.

Mount appeared clearly upset and seemed to be holding back tears as he walked slowly off the field.

United manager Amorim gave Mount a hug as he left the field to make room for substitute Kobbie Mainoo.

It appeared that Rashford and Garnacho would have been suitable replacements for Mount, but the attacking pair did not make it into Amorin's lineup for the match.

Former Chelsea star Mount was embraced by Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim as he exited the pitch.

Mount's appearance on Sunday marked just his ninth start in the Premier League since joining United.

Mount was chosen over Alejandro Garnacho and Mason Mount, who were left out of the squad.

Before the match began, Amorim clarified why he chose not to include Rashford and Garnacho in the lineup. He mentioned, "We consider various factors, including training sessions, individual performances, how players perform during matches, and their involvement with their teammates, as well as how they motivate each other."

"We have a lot at stake when we evaluate and select the players. So, that’s my decision. It's straightforward."

Mount made the switch to United from Chelsea in a transfer that could reach £60 million in July 2023. Since arriving, he has only begun nine Premier League matches for the Red Devils.

Mount has a contract with United that runs until June 2028.
