Manchester United agree £26.7m deal with Marseille for Mason Greenwood

Manchester United has agreed to a €31.6m (£26.7m) bid for Mason Greenwood from Marseille. The young forward is expected to join the Ligue 1 team once his contract details are sorted out.

The agreement is for a set amount of €27.6 million with an additional €4 million that could be included, depending on certain conditions. If the 22-year-old can reach an agreement with Marseille and officially signs with them, it will mark the end of his struggling time at United. It is known that a portion of any future transfer fee will go back to the original club, estimated to be around 40-50%.

In October 2022, Greenwood faced serious legal accusations including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. He proclaimed his innocence and the charges were dismissed in February 2023. This decision came after crucial witnesses decided not to cooperate with the investigation and new evidence was uncovered, as reported by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Greenwood's most recent appearance for United was in January 2022, and he is under contract with the club until 2025. There is also a provision for the club to extend his contract for an additional year.

Last season, he was sent on loan to Getafe where he scored 10 goals in 36 games and had six assists. Greenwood has come back to England and is believed to be training in the Manchester area, away from his team.
