Manchester United strike deal for Amorim to start in international break

Manchester United

Rúben Amorim is set to become the new head coach of Manchester United after finalizing an agreement to move from Sporting with a contract lasting until 2027. However, he won't begin his role until the international break in November.

United is covering the €10 million (£8.3 million) buyout clause for the 39-year-old coach, plus an additional €1 million to reduce his 30-day notice period. Amorim will continue with Sporting for their upcoming three matches, which include a Champions League game against Manchester City this Tuesday. His first match in charge of United is scheduled for the away game against Ipswich on November 24.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain as Manchester United's temporary head coach for three additional home matches: facing Chelsea this Sunday, Paok on Thursday, and Leicester on November 10, before passing the reins to Amorim. The international break starts on November 11.

Amorim chose not to push for a departure out of respect for Sporting, who are likely to elevate João Pereira, the coach of the B team, to take his place.

Amorim is expected to bring along five staff members to United, including coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido, and Carlos Fernandes, goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital, and sports scientist Paulo Barreira. However, the specifics regarding their salaries have not been finalized. United’s CEO, Omar Berrada, and sporting director, Dan Ashworth, have been in Lisbon this week to negotiate with Sporting.

Van Nistelrooy has expressed his intention to stay at United following Amorim's arrival, stating that he is open to taking on any position that is needed.
