Manchester City 2-2 Arsenal: Premier League player ratings

Manchester City

Ederson had no chance of preventing Gabriel's header at the back post and spent the entire second half as a mere bystander. 5

Kyle Walker had a tough game. He let Martinelli set up Arsenal's first goal from his side and then lost track of Gabriel, who was supposed to be his responsibility, leading to the Gunners’ second goal.

Rúben Dias received a yellow card and seemed shaken by Arsenal's physical play. While John Stones possesses superior football skills and might have been a more suitable option, he only came on with 15 minutes remaining before scoring.

Manuel Akanji, like Dias, struggled to contain Arsenal's aerial threat during corners. However, he did not participate much in City's offensive efforts against Arsenal's defense in the second half. 5

Josko Gvardiol poses a scoring danger. The inverted full-back for City moved into the Gunners’ box just before halftime, but he should have assisted Walker in preventing Gabriel from scoring. Rating: 7.

Rodri had an afternoon to forget. He tripped just two seconds into the game after making contact with Kai Havertz. Later, he hobbled off the field, seemingly suffering from a knee issue after chasing the ball alongside Thomas Partey. 5

Savinho tricked Calafiori with a clever move that opened up room for a pass, allowing Haaland to score the first goal. 7

Bernardo Silva, the Portuguese player, couldn't match the exceptional performance Kevin De Bruyne often delivers from the central midfield position. However, like the rest of his teammates, he showed great determination and never backed down. Rating: 6.

Ilkay Gündogan missed a close-range volley, later struck the post, and, oddly enough, had little impact on the game until he teamed up with Jack Grealish to help set up Stones' goal. Rating: 7.

Jérémy Doku was chosen over Grealish, but he struggled to make an impact before halftime. Although he showed some improvement later on, he was ultimately substituted. Rating: 6.

Erling Haaland broke his brief scoring slump with his usual powerful run and strike. However, his teammates were unable to create any more opportunities for another goal.

Substitutes: Mateo Kovacic (replacing Rodri in the 21st minute) - 7; Phil Foden (taking over from Doku in the 70th minute) - N/A; Jack Grealish (on for Savinho in the 79th minute) - Played an important role with a key cross that set up Stones’ goal - 7. John Stones (coming on for Walker in the 79th minute) - Will cherish his dramatic late equalizer - 7.

David Raya pulled off three impressive saves in the second half against Gvardiol (twice) and Haaland. However, one has to wonder if the Spanish goalkeeper could have predicted where Haaland would place his shot (to the keeper's left). Rating: 7.

Jurriën Timber effectively contained Doku for the most part, although the left winger from City managed to get past him a few times. 7

William Saliba, similar to Gabriel, left an opening for Haaland to break through and score. However, he corrected his approach and delivered a strong performance in the second half. Rating: 7.

Gabriel Magalhães left himself a bit too exposed for Haaland’s first goal, but he came close to securing a remarkable 2-1 victory for his team with a strong header. He played a crucial role in Arsenal's defense during the match. Rating: 8.

Riccardo Calafiori showed great style on his first Premier League start, scoring a stunning equalizer. He also had an exciting matchup with Savinho. Rating: 8.

Bukayo Saka was named captain for the day and played mostly in a defensive position. He took the corner kick that perfectly set up Gabriel's header for their second goal. He was substituted at halftime due to Trossard's red card. Rating: 7/10.

Declan Rice demonstrated impressive focus and worked hard for his team, making City's last-minute equalizer all the more frustrating. 7

Thomas Partey performed admirably, working alongside Rice to direct their teammates on when to apply pressure and when to pull back. They showed great determination right until the final whistle. Rating: 7

Gabriel Martinelli made a strong impression. He set up Calafiori for a stunning goal and consistently dashed back to help defend as City pressed forward. Rating: 7

Kai Havertz frequently found himself isolated while Trossard dropped back into a deeper position. After the Belgian received a red card, he contributed to the team's collective defense efforts. 7

Leandro Trossard received two yellow cards that could have been avoided, leading to his dismissal just before halftime. Prior to that, playing as one of two false nines, his energetic play helped pressure Manchester City.

Substitutes: Ben White came on for Saka at halftime, scoring a rating of 6. Jakob Kiwior replaced Calafiori in the 72nd minute, but there’s no rating available for his performance. Gabriel Jesus stepped in for Martinelli, with no rating assigned. Lastly, Myles Lewis-Skelly substituted Timber in the 90+2 minute, and his performance also doesn’t have a rating.
