Hugo Viana has already started work involving Manchester City reveals Pep Guardiola
It has come to light that Manchester City’s new Director of Football is already in touch with his future teammates at the Etihad Stadium.
Last month, the Premier League champions announced that Txiki Begiristain would be stepping down as Manchester City's Director of Football after 12 years with the club. His time in the position has been marked by significant achievements.
Numerous fans of the club believe that Begiristain has been instrumental in Manchester City's incredible achievements since the Abu Dhabi United Group took over in 2008. They credit him significantly for bringing Pep Guardiola on board as the head coach.
After initially thinking about stepping down as Manchester City's sporting director five years back, and deciding to stay because he was excited about the project and enjoyed collaborating with Guardiola, Begiristain has now made the decision to depart at the conclusion of the current season.
The club acted quickly to determine their future plans, with Txiki Begiristain personally involved in the search for the new Director of Football. Ultimately, Hugo Viana from Sporting Lisbon was chosen for the position.
In a recent press conference before the match, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Etihad Stadium, stated that he hasn't spoken directly to the Portuguese official yet. However, he mentioned that Viana is already in communication with Manchester City.
"Not at this time. Not yet," Guardiola responded when questioned about whether he had a conversation with the 41-year-old, who is set to take over for Txiki Begiristain at the conclusion of the current 2024/25 season.
"I’m aware that he’s communicating with the club, but nothing has been finalized yet," Guardiola concluded. He is still considering his own future at Manchester City as his contract approaches its end. It's understood that the change in sporting director won't affect his decision.
At this point, Manchester City is still waiting for their manager, Pep Guardiola, to make a final call about his future with the team. His current contract is due to run out at the end of this season.
Initially, it was thought that Txiki Begiristain and Guardiola would leave the club together, but it's now clear that Begiristain's confirmed departure won't affect Guardiola's long-awaited choice regarding his future at Manchester City.
