Lloris out for up two months

Tottenham Hotspur will be without goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for six to eight weeks because of a knee injury, according to Matt Law and John Percy of The Telegraph.

Lloris was able to complete 90 minutes in Spurs' 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, which came courtesy of a first-half goal from Harry Kane.

But examinations have flagged up the issue, and Lloris could now be out of action until April.

Tottenham is due to travel to AC Milan on Tuesday night for the first leg of its Champions League round-of-16 tie, with the return leg penciled in for March 8.

Lloris will also miss the Premier League clash with one of Spurs' biggest rivals in Chelsea on February 26.

Fraser Forster, who played in the 2-2 draw with Brentford on Boxing Day after Lloris was granted more time off in the wake of France's run to the World Cup final, is poised to step into the side.

Liverpool.com says: This is certainly a blow to one of Liverpool's top-four rivals, but it's worth noting that Lloris has struggled this season anyway, making a league-high four errors leading to opposition goals.

Kompany responds to Man City allegations

Manchester City legend Vincent Kompany has called out the 'finger-pointing' at his old club after it was charged with more than 100 breaches of the Premier League's financial rules.

Kompany, now the manager of Burnley, won four Premier League titles over the course of his 11 years with Manchester City between 2008 and 2019.

The club could face serious sanctions, including a suspension, points deduction and/or transfer ban, after it was accused of breaking the rules over a nine-year period.

Manchester City, which will fight its case at an independent commission, says it expects its innocence to be definitively proven.

And Kompany believes a degree of hypocritical 'righteousness' was behind the levelling of charges.

"I look at it and sometimes roll my eyes a little bit," he said following his team's 2-1 FA Cup win over Ipswich Town (via BBC Sport).

"No doubt there's a lot of righteousness in the world to come and tell you what you've done wrong, and then if everybody looks at themselves, I think the football industry in general is not one that can afford to point the finger too many times," the Burnley manager added.

"I think all of you will have a little bit of a smile on your face to know what the football industry is about. I'm very skeptical when people start pointing fingers.

"Do the best for yourself and let's try and improve all the time but I'm a little bit skeptical when the fingers get pointed easily."

Liverpool.com says: It's no surprise to see Kompany defend Manchester City, but pleading hypocrisy won't get it anywhere. The Premier League is clearly satisfied that clubs like Liverpool have complied with its rules, and the Reds will want adequate retribution if Manchester City is found to have strayed from them.

Manchester United has identified Harry Kane as one of its top two striker targets for the summer transfer window, according to The Telegraph.

United's number nine department looks light following the cancellation of Cristiano Ronaldo's contract last year.

The Red Devils brought in Wout Weghorst from Championship side Burnley in January but he's only on loan until the end of the season.

Kane, who ranks second in the Premier League scoring charts behind Erling Haaland on 17 goals, is approaching the final 12 months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Manchester United is ready to fork out $121m (£100m/€113m) for the signing, but it could also use that budget on Victor Osimhen of Napoli.

Osimhen, 24, has scored 16 goals in 17 Serie A matches for Napoli this season, helping it open up a huge 13-point lead at the top of the table.

Liverpool.com says: Manchester United has already made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag and either of these players could re-establish it as a title contender from next season onwards.
