Who Stood Out At Wembley?
On Saturday night at 8:00 PM on August 10, 2024
Even though Manchester United played well overall, we narrowly lost to our rivals Manchester City on penalties in the FA Community Shield.
The Wembley showdown marks the second occasion the Manchester derby has taken place at the national stadium in 2022. The first memorable encounter occurred during our victorious FA Cup final against the Blues last season.
The outcome may not be the fondest recollection for supporters of United, but there were some truly pleasing performances from the team that give hope for the upcoming season.
We asked our supporters to cast their vote for the player of the game after the match ended. Keep reading to find out who came out on top in the poll...
Who Was Your Man Of The Match At Wembley?
As expected, and rightfully so, the player who scored the first goal of the game, Alejandro Garnacho, received the majority of the votes - 41 percent - for his significant impact on the match.
The player from Argentina was brought on by Erik ten Hag just before the 60-minute mark and made a big impact in the time he had. He not only scored a goal, but also set up a great opportunity for Marcus Rashford with a perfect pass into the penalty area. Unfortunately, Rashford hit the post with his shot after connecting with the pass.
If it wasn't for Bernardo Silva's last-minute goal, the young player would have been celebrating helping United win a trophy at Wembley once again.
After making a significant difference as a substitute, Garnacho continued to impress in the penalty shootout, calmly scoring his spot-kick past the City goalkeeper. However, the Blues ultimately emerged victorious on the day.
Special recognition goes to Amad and team captain Bruno Fernandes for their hard work, which has been acknowledged by the fans who voted.
They each received 18 and 19 percent of the votes, respectively. Together, they were a dynamic duo that made a big impact during the game. The Ivorian player caused City many problems in the first half from the right side, while Bruno consistently posed a threat while moving forward. Although the Portugal player had a powerful shot into the net before Garna's goal, it was disallowed due to an offside call.
Casemiro also garnered significant backing in the voting, capturing 10 percent of the support. He looked impressive in the midfield lineup, making solid contributions on defense and sparking attacking plays.
Congratulations to Alejandro, and a big thank you to everyone who cast their vote.
