Erik ten Hag has included Manchester United's young talent Jack Fletcher in the senior matchday squad for the first time as Brentford comes to Old Trafford for a Premier League clash.

The son of Manchester United legend Darren, he joined the Academy last year from Manchester City, accompanied by his twin brother Tyler. He officially signed his professional contract in April, just after turning 17.

Fletcher showed up at Old Trafford with the first-team squad early Saturday afternoon and will be sitting on the bench during the match at M16.

Fletcher has kicked off the season strongly in Premier League 2, scoring one goal and providing two assists in consecutive victories for United against Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers in August.

Jack's impressive showings led to him being nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award. Additionally, he came off the bench to score two goals in our EFL Trophy win against Barnsley in September. During that same month, he also made three appearances for the England Under-18s.

"Jack is performing great," Ten Hag stated. "He joined us on the pre-season tour and is making significant progress. However, his inclusion in the squad is also influenced by the injuries we have in the midfield."

Sadly, even players like Dan Gore and Toby Collyer have suffered injuries. Nonetheless, we need to adapt to the situation. Jack is progressing nicely and will certainly draw motivation from being part of the team. However, he needs to stay prepared, as he could be called upon from the bench and will need to make an impact. We believe he has what it takes to succeed.

If he plays in the match, our No.57 will be the 252nd player from the Academy to make an appearance for the first team.

In August, Toby Collyer achieved the 251st milestone, while Ethan Wheatley, who was also on the bench for today’s match, reached the significant 250th mark towards the end of the previous season.

Wheatley is aiming to increase his total of three appearances at the senior level.

Former Academy players Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jonny Evans are included in the starting lineup selected by Ten Hag, showcasing our continued commitment to nurturing homegrown talent.
