Alejandro Garnacho rightfully earned the Man of the Match title after Manchester United staged a comeback to defeat Brentford 2-1.
After missing the international matches with Argentina due to an injury, our number 17 was chosen by Erik ten Hag right from the start, primarily positioning himself on the left. He was a persistent challenge for Bees' right-back, Sepp van den Berg.
Garna came close to scoring multiple times in the first half, prompting a remarkable save from Brentford's goalkeeper, Mark Flekken. Eventually, Ethan Pinnock put the visitors ahead with a goal just before half-time.
The goal, which happened while Matthijs de Ligt was getting medical attention off the field, could have been very discouraging. However, the Reds came back strong in the second half, and it was Garnacho who took the lead in their response.
Who Deserves Your Vote As United's MVP?
The 20-year-old brought the score level just 90 seconds into the second half, perfectly judging his run to the back post and volleying in Marcus Rashford's accurate pass.
He then tested Flekken once more, and the Dutch goalkeeper successfully deflected his long-range shot around the post, despite facing the challenge of bright sunlight in his eyes.
Garna was the first to reach Rasmus Hojlund and celebrate with him after he scored what ended up being the winning goal. As the Bees tried to find an equalizer in the closing moments, Hojlund remained a constant danger on the counterattack. He broke free and nearly passed the ball to Hojlund again for a chance at a third goal.
As you might anticipate after such an intense match, Alejandro began to tire towards the end and was ultimately substituted for Noussair Mazraoui.
The crowd at Old Trafford gave him a warm standing ovation, and this was reflected in the responses from users of the United App in the post-match survey.
Garna garnered 56 percent of the votes, significantly surpassing Hojlund and Rashford, who both earned 11 percent after their strong showings.
Alejandro is currently our top scorer across all competitions this season, having netted five goals. Additionally, he has received more Man of the Match awards than any other player.
This is his second accolade for the 2024/25 season, coming after the impressive 7-0 victory against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.
