The Ref Watch is back with Dermot Gallagher providing his latest analysis and stating that the incidents involving Alejandro Garnacho and Destiny Udogie were not deserving of penalties.

Man Utd And Tottenham Draw 2-2

EVENT: Manchester United requested a penalty kick when Alejandro Garnacho believed he was brought down by Tottenham's Destiny Udogie.

Dermot expresses his doubts regarding the penalty awarded, he wasn't convinced that it was required. However, he questions the decision-making of the defender as to why would they take such a risk?

"He is not obligated to do that. It doesn't appear to be correct, right? He has grasped him and touched him, but he hasn't dragged him down. If a penalty was given, it would have been highly unexpected."

EVENT: At the opposite side of the field, Garnacho committed a foul on Udogie inside the designated penalty area, resulting in the involvement of the same two players in another event.

Dermot expressed his opinion stating that he does not believe this is a penalty as there was very little contact. He further adds that even Richarlison, who was closest to the situation, agrees with him and does not think that it should be a penalty.

EVENT: Prior to Luton scoring a goal in the final moments, Burnley believed that their goalkeeper James Trafford was fouled. However, VAR did not assess the situation and Burnley co-owner JJ Watt expressed disappointment in referee Tony Harrington and VAR for overlooking the incident.

Dermot believes that there was a foul, however, not everyone shares the same opinion.

That's the reason why I believe VAR shouldn't come into play. It's entirely up to the referee to make the call. Shay Given, who used to be a goalie, is of the opinion that it's not a foul.

Many individuals would support my perspective, while many others would oppose it. The legal framework does not dictate a player's position on the field.

There is no legal requirement for him to move away from the goalkeeper.

"However, he does make eye contact with the goalkeeper, thus taking a risk. In my opinion, it is a violation and the sole possibility of receiving a penalty is if it's declared during the match."

Dermot Gallagher commented on Ref Watch, stating that the Luton player was not obligated to move out of the way, but did make eye contact with the other player.

Luton might complain had the referee called a foul. However, I do not believe it qualifies for VAR review. Although, the Luton striker did not have any intention of playing the ball.

VAR made the correct decision by choosing not to intervene due to the fact that the error was not easily identifiable.

Happening: Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, believed that VAR should have suggested referee Anthony Taylor to give Malo Gusto a red card for his tackle on Willian.

Dermot stated that he believed it was a yellow card during the match and continues to hold the same opinion. He thinks the player unconsciously fell into the challenge and did not gain enough momentum due to the close proximity.

The tackle wasn't great, but I don't believe it warrants a red card.

During this season, Curtis Jones from Liverpool received a red card for a comparable tackle, while Gusto had also been handed a red card earlier in the season for a challenge he made against Aston Villa.

Does the fact that things remain the same bother the team leaders and supporters?

Dermot believes that it's hard to make a judgment when looking at an entire group of things, versus just looking at one thing by itself. He also thinks that if a different referee were in charge, they may make a different choice.

I maintain my opinion that the Gusto event on Saturday deserved a yellow card.

When it comes to the rule regarding handball, we are now determining what qualifies and what doesn't. However, this has resulted in an overly intricate system. At times, it's necessary to entrust it to the referee's judgment.

It is undesirable to have referees with vastly different levels of tolerance. The goal should be to minimize ambiguity and make the rules clearer.

You'll never be able to eliminate it. You'll always have a small variation in views. It's not feasible to attain a uniformity among all referees.

Is it fair to base VAR decisions solely on the votes of the majority?

Stephen Warnock shares his thoughts on Ref Watch:

To put it simply, we are saying that having VAR is useless as all the decisions made are based on personal opinions.

We need to change the way VAR is done so that there are four individuals present in a room and a decision can only be taken if more than half of them agree.

No Goals Scored In Everton Vs Aston Villa Match

EVENT: Aston Villa's goal scored by Alex Moreno against Everton was under review by VAR for a substantial period of time. After a 3 minute and 45 second delay, VAR conclusively ruled the goal as offside. However, there is widespread debate about whether the ruling was correct.

According to Dermot, Leon Bailey was the player who was offside. Initially, they couldn't find any angle that had both the ball and Bailey in the same image, which made it difficult to determine the exact moment the ball was kicked.

After thorough investigation, they were able to refute it. They possibly called a penalty against Clement Lenglet for his foul on Arnaut Danjuma. Obtaining an earlier image was not feasible.

EVENT: Aston Villa was also hoping to get a penalty call after James Tarkowski's tackle on Moussa Diaby. Tarkowski carried on with his challenge while inside the penalty area.

According to Dermot, he witnessed many challenges over the weekend, in which players made contact with the ball and then continued with their movement.

We converse frequently - just because you acquire the ball, doesn't imply that it isn't a violation. In my opinion, in this situation, he obtained a considerable amount of the ball, but he still made contact with the other player.

"I comprehend the rationale behind him not receiving a penalty."

In another place, the decision to give Dominic Calvert-Lewin a red card in the FA Cup game against Crystal Palace was overruled. However, the Football Association has a rule which states that the red card will stay on his record with his team, Everton. This means that if he gets another red card this season, he will have to sit out an extra match on top of the suspension he gets for the offence. Do you think this is reasonable?

Dermot expressed, "I am not responsible for this ruling! Like everyone else, I was taken aback when I came across this news. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that he doesn't receive another red card."
