The iconic sitcom "Malcolm in the Middle," known for its portrayal of a quirky and dysfunctional family, is set to make a comeback with four new episodes on Disney+ in 2025, though the exact release date hasn't been revealed yet. The show originally ran on Fox from 2000 to 2006 and will see the return of original cast members Frankie Muniz, who played the child genius Malcolm, along with Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek reprising their roles as his parents, Hal and Lois.
As of now, there hasn't been any information regarding whether any of the other cast members from Malcolm in the Middle will be back for the reboot.
In the original single-camera series, Malcolm in the Middle, the story revolved around the young prodigy Malcolm as he dealt with the ups and downs of life alongside his eccentric and sometimes challenging family. In this new limited series revival, Malcolm and his daughter find themselves caught up in the family’s madness when Hal and Lois insist that he come to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
“Malcolm in the Middle is a groundbreaking comedy that beautifully showcased the realities of family life filled with humor, warmth, and authenticity,” stated Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television. “Its funny and touching depiction of a wonderfully disordered family struck a chord with viewers of all ages. We’re thrilled to reunite the original cast to recreate that special charm. Under the guidance of Linwood Boomer and the creative team, these upcoming episodes will feature all the laughter, antics, and chaos that fans adored, plus some surprises that will remind us why this series is a classic.”
Linwood Boomer, the creator of the original series, is back as both a writer and executive producer. The executive production team also includes Bryan Cranston, Tracy Katsky from KatCo, Gail Berman, along with Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann from New Regency. Ken Kwapis is set to direct all four episodes and will serve as an executive producer as well. This limited series is being produced by 20th Television, a division of Disney Television Studios, in collaboration with New Regency.
