Madelyn Cline on the Outer Banks fan theory she wants to happen

23 Feb 2023

Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron in hit Netflix show Outer Banks, has revealed the fan theory she really wants to come true, and it's all to do with JJ.

In case you need reminding (we're sure you don't), Outer Banks season 3 drops on the streaming service today [23rd February] and comprises of 10 episodes. Viewers will be transported back to the desert island that the Pogues find themselves on, in an attempt to clear John B's name and find the hidden treasure.

In a new interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Madelyn Cline opened up about being part of the show, touching on how she spent her first Netflix pay cheque, as well as the fan theory she would love to come true. "There’s been a lot of really good ones actually," she said in a game of Up Close.

“There’s a lot of thought put into these theories and frankly I’ve sent a few to our showrunners because I think they’re so fun and they’re such good ideas.”

However, her favourite fan theory... “I’ve said this before, one of my favourites is JJ and Sarah being siblings because of the missing mom connection,” she reveals. “But our writers haven’t bitten yet, so... “I don't know, I think it’d be really funny if we found out we were long lost siblings."

Could you imagine that being revealed?

In the show, neither JJ or Sarah's biological mother is present, and there are no explicit references to where they are. Was JJ and Sarah's mum was having an affair with Ward or Luke...? Could she have skipped town? Are they actually half siblings...?!

Whether this fan theory makes it onto the screen is still to be seen, but we do know that the show has been renewed for a fourth season, which will most likely premiere in 2024.

You can watch the latest season of Outer Banks – and catch up with the two previous seasons – now on Netflix.
