M6 crash: Two children among five killed near Tebay services

M6 crash

Five individuals, among them two kids, lost their lives in an accident on the M6 motorway.

According to Cumbria Police, a man, a woman, and two children from Glasgow traveling in a Toyota, as well as the driver of a Skoda from Cambridgeshire, were all declared dead at the site of the incident.

The accident took place on the M6 Northbound, just beyond the Tebay services, on Tuesday at 4:04 PM BST.

A third child, traveling in the Toyota, was flown to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle via air ambulance due to severe injuries.

On Tuesday afternoon, the M6 Northbound closed between junctions 36 and 39, but it completely reopened in the early hours of the morning.

The Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service reported that they dispatched four fire engines from Penrith, Kendal, and Shap, and stayed at the crash site for several hours.

In addition to the Great North Air Ambulance, the North West Ambulance Service and the volunteer Beep Doctors were also present.

The police are asking anyone who saw what happened, or who has any relevant information, to get in touch.
